Under the direction of the Judges and Court Administrator the Assignment Commissioner/Jury Commissioner schedules criminal, traffic, and civil cases for appropriate proceedings such as pre-trials, jury trials, court trials, motion hearings, and miscellaneous oral hearings. Preparation of appropriate notices of hearing, filing of those notices in the Clerk’s Office, and service of those notices so that all parties to a case are appropriately notified of all hearings. Position requires regular and reliable attendance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: For purposes of 42 USC 12101- Schedules criminal, traffic, and civil cases for appropriate proceedings such as pre-trials, jury trials, court trials, motion hearings, and miscellaneous oral hearings. Prepares appropriate notices of hearing, files those notices in the Clerk’s Office, and serves those notices so that all parties to a case are appropriately notified of all hearings.
- Manages and schedules courtroom calendars for judges and magistrates utilizing Microsoft Outlook.
- Responds to telephone inquiries concerning juror questions, the court calendars, and/or dockets.
- Prepares and/or complete various legal forms and notices.
- Prepares docket reports.
- Assigns judges for on-call after hours for warrants and bonds.
- Arranges for courtroom interpreters, as needed for limited language proficient and hearing impaired individuals.
- Prepares and mails jury summons.
- Addresses juror requests for excuse, prepares jury list for trial dates.
- Assists jurors and parties on trial days.
- Performs the duties of Jury Commissioner, which includes sending out summons to jurors, addressing requests for excuses, and assisting jurors during trials.
- Accesses case data using case management software.
- Secures and schedules visiting judges and magistrates for courtroom coverage.
- Prepares and submits appropriate paperwork for official assignment or appointment and submit the same for filing in the Clerk’s Office.
- Arrange for competency to stand trial, not guilty plea by reason of insanity, and developmental disability evaluations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
EQUIPMENT OPERATED
Computer, copier, phone, fax machine, WEBEX, and other standard/modern office equipment; computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Court Authority CMI, Authority Jury, Authority Civil, and other applicable computer software).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Majority of work is performed in an office environment where the physical demands require sitting for extended periods of time; frequent use of computers and standard office equipment; may work under stress of deadlines.
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and to communicate effectively with others in person and over the telephone.
- Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written materials on a computer for extended periods of time.

Training, Experience, and Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in related field and over six months of related experience and/or training.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Any combination of training and experience which will indicate the possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
